No prediction but will go for KO – Pacquiao

LOS ANGELES – Manny Pacquiao refused to make any prediction but will go for a stoppage just the same in his title fight with David Diaz this coming Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, as usual, wouldn’t predict on the outcome of the fight and said he wouldn’t make excuses if he fails to get past the Mexican-American champion.

“No excuses. If you win, you win, if you lose, you lose,” said Pacquiao before a group of Filipino scribes Sunday at his cozy apartment at La Brea as he took a complete one-day rest heading to the fight.

Despite making no prediction, Pacquiao said it’s just normal for every boxer to try and knock out his opponent because the other side is definitely out to do that as well.

“All of us boxers want to win by knockout, right? But I cannot say that because it’s difficult to get ahead of the fight,” he said.

“Of course I will try to win by knockout. But I’m sure Diaz will do the same. He will try to do that, too, so the people will be happy,” said Pacquiao.

The 29-year-old superstar from Gen. Santos City in Mindanao then assured fight fans of an action-packed contest – long or short.

“When we climb the ring, since we both trained hard for this fight, may the best man win. There’ll be lots of action,” he said.

Moving up in weight, from 130 lbs to 135 lbs, does not give him any worry that he’ll be facing bigger or sturdier opponents.

“135? It’s the same (as 130 lbs) because it’s the fist (that matters). Kamao yan,” he said.

“It’s my life trading punches or take punches as well. Besides, I’ve sparred with much bigger guys (12 big as 145 lbs) in training,” Pacquiao said.

He added that while he finds the reigning champion a very nice person, he only expects real David Diaz to show up on the ring on Saturday.

Pacquiao said the Diaz that fought Ramon Montano in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight last March is a “different” Diaz.
